Senate Bans Lead, Other Chemicals in Toys

August 12th, 2008 · No Comments

The U.S. Senate passed legislation last week banning all lead in toys.  The bill also temporarily places a ban on chemicals of the phthalate family in toys that children play with or chew on.

A White house spokesperson has said the President will sign the legislation aimed at making toys safer and bolstering the authority of the office that oversees federal consumer product safety.

Phthalate chemicals are used primarily to make vinyl soft and flexible.  They can be found in garden hoses, wiring and cable, construction materials, flooring, automotive interiors, and medical devices.

If you child has been injured by a lead or other chemical based toy, contact the Racine defective product lawyers of Habush, Habush, & Rottier S.C. at 800.682.3434 to discuss your case and further legal options.
